What is HEIC and why can't Windows open it?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format. It offers better compression than JPEG but requires specific codecs that are not installed by default on Windows or most non-Apple platforms.

Will converting HEIC to JPEG reduce photo quality?

Setting the quality slider to 85 or higher produces output that is visually indistinguishable from the original for virtually all practical uses. PNG conversion is lossless.

Is EXIF data kept after conversion?

Yes, by default. Capture date, GPS coordinates, and camera information are preserved in the output file. Enable the 'Strip EXIF' option if you prefer not to share this data.

What is the maximum file size supported?

Individual HEIC files up to 50 MB are supported.

Can Live Photos be converted?

The tool converts the static image layer of Live Photos. The video component is not included in the output — only the still frame is exported.

Is there a way to avoid getting HEIC files from my iPhone in the first place?

Yes. In your iPhone Settings, go to Camera, then Formats, and select 'Most Compatible'. This saves new photos as JPEG directly. This tool remains useful for converting existing HEIC files.
