Is the text preserved, and is it still selectable/searchable?

No. The page is fully rasterized; the text is no longer selectable/searchable text, it becomes plain pixels. Color-based transparency does not distinguish text from the background — EVERY pixel that falls within the tolerance range (including text) can become transparent.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No, the process happens entirely in your browser; the file is never sent to a server.

Can I see the result before starting the process?

Yes, the live preview shows the before and after of page 1. You can try your settings on this preview and, when you find them suitable, start the process with "Remove Background".

When I upload a multi-page PDF, is each page processed separately?

Yes, at the end of the process a separate transparent PNG is created for each page. You can see how many pages were processed on the screen.
