What does optimization clean up?

There are eight settings and by default all are enabled: removing comments, metadata elements, title and desc tags, the XML declaration, editor (Inkscape/Illustrator) attributes, simplifying whitespace, and shortening numbers. You can turn each one on or off individually.

Can I see how much I saved?

Yes. The tool shows the original and optimized code size and the savings in between.

Can I change the preview background?

Yes; you can switch between white, black, gray, and striped (checkered) backgrounds and zoom in on the preview.

Is there a full-screen viewing mode?

No, there is no such mode; you can inspect the preview by zooming in.
